HARRISBURG - At a press conference today at the state capitol in Harrisburg, three organizations representing immigrants, refugees, and working class Black, Asian, and Latine communities announced their support for Democrat Justin Douglas for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th district.

In announcing their endorsements of the Dauphin County commissioner’s campaign, the Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance (API PA), One Pennsylvania, and CASA In Action all agreed that Douglas “shows up” for the communities they represent. They’ve found Douglas’s campaign to be a stark contrast to the other Democratic candidate, Janelle Stelson, who has consistently declined to attend candidate forums they’ve hosted and those organized by similarly aligned organizations.

“Our communities are deeply invested in this election. We know what it’s like to have years of so-called representation that throws us under the bus," said Mohan Seshadri, Executive Director of API PA. “This moment demands leadership that’s rooted in solidarity, integrity, and respect for all constituents. (...) Justin Douglas is the only candidate in this race that has delivered, and will continue to deliver, on promises to stand with our communities through thick and thin.”

“Justin has shown up — and continues to show up — as a commissioner and a candidate. He’s committed to fighting billionaires and corruption within politics. He stays in constant dialogue with constituents. And he engages in vocal resistance and staunch action against ICE, MAGA, and others who cause disproportionate harm to communities of color, especially here in Harrisburg,” said Tyler Hartl, organizer with One Pennsylvania. “We have an opportunity within this city, within this district, to elevate our communities with a candidate in Justin Douglas who is ready to fight for the people.”

“Justin Douglas has shown he's serious about transparent government and giving working families a real shot, including immigrants who face so many barriers just to get ahead. He's fighting to protect voting rights, make mental health and addiction services more accessible, and create genuine economic opportunities for everyone. Justin gets that people need a voice in the decisions that shape their lives,” said Mirna Miranda, organizing director with CASA in Action. “That's the kind of leader we need. CASA in Action is proud to endorse Justin Douglas for the Democratic nomination."

Douglas joined the organizations and expressed his gratitude for their endorsements.

“As a grassroots candidate, often those endorsements go one way: They look at your cash on hand and make their decision based on that. They make their decision based on the fact that you're not taking corporate PAC money, and assume therefore you're not going to be able to compete. I'm so grateful for these organizations and the work they do in the community, and the vision that they have for American politics right now to see simply beyond a dollar amount. They see that what we need right now are principled candidates, more than ever. Dollars don't vote people do,” said Justin Douglas, candidate for PA-10.

The organizations were joined by several community leaders who are also supporting Douglas’s campaign.

“In these days and times, we need someone who’s not just going to listen but also going to take action. And I believe Justin's done that as Dauphin County commissioner, and I believe he's going to do the exact same thing in Washington, D.C., for us. Justin is a representation of the people standing behind us. He is just like you and me,” said Merrick Greene, a local community leader, veteran, and board member of Broad Street Market.  “Sending him to Washington is the best thing we can do right now. We need someone in Washington, D.C. who's going to fight for us and fight for the common folks in Pennsylvania.”

“Not a single politician dared to speak out against the unjust and unfair detention and deportation of my community, except for Justin Douglas. It was Justin who spoke out loud and clear to consistently condemn ICE terror, who drove all the way to Pike County detention center with families to let them meet with their loved ones before they would be separated forever. It was Justin who coordinated with community organizations and community leaders to provide support to the impacted families. Justin has the proven track record of standing up for justice, dignity, and community care,” said Robin Gurung, a member of the Bhutanese refugee community in Harrisburg and API PA board member.

“Today, for the first time in a long time, we have a candidate that refuses AIPAC money and money from other corporate interests. We have a candidate who is genuinely concerned about money in politics, and wants to eliminate it. We have a candidate who sees the humanity of Palestinians as people, created by God, just as he sees the humanity of all of us,” said Nabila Taha, Muslim community leader in Harrisburg. “Let’s put our energy together to vote for a man for the people and by the people, Commissioner Justin Douglas.”

“Justin has brought a broad coalition of many different groups here of many different races, and that shows that he has the interests of the people at heart. I've worked with Justin and seen the kind of work that he's done in our communities, and that has been fabulous,” said Terrance Webb, community leader and activist in Harrisburg for over 30 years. “I'm here today to say that, whatever it takes, we all need to recognize that Justin needs to be in Congress.”
